One year ago, around my birthday, I went back to Italy, looking for a long lost feeling of belonging, since long years spent living abroad.
Truffles, the fungus, not the chocolates, are my passion, so Umbria, the region sitting between Rome and Perugia, was the place to be and Spoleto was the city I choose for an Italian cooking class based on truffles and incredible olive oils, sold all over the word. The cooking class was fun, my Italian chef was good teacher of locals produces used in wonderful simples dishes and a great inspiration for my future cooking, yes, but the best of the all trip was the week-end I spent in Norcia at Palazzo Seneca. (40 minutes from Spoleto)
At Palazzo Seneca you feel like an ancient roman noble, walking through splendid well restored ancient salons, library, gardens, restaurant, bedrooms with all modern amenities fitting perfectly to the ancient building.
Norcia is a small historic town, like an hidden jewel set on the Appenini mountains, where the quality of life is just more than the best you could find.
If you like great scenery, gourmet organic produces, historic sites and great friendly locals, Norcia and Umbria are the places to visit once in your life. Like a small Tuscany still to be discovered…hiding great treasures.
The food was grandiose, so the next be post will be a like a ‘souvenir’ from Umbria……
History right out of the window!
