I do know a great Dad, but he’s not mine. My father was ok. Instead, the great one is my husband, Christer. Ok, I know what you are thinking. Of course, she would write that.

Well, we married late in life, so we do not have children together, but I know he would have been a wonderful dad to our children. It’s in him, he just dearly loves children, and his children, four of them, love him the same way. He says, “All children under the age of five are citizens of the world.”

Though loving his children with his whole heart, Christer was always flying around the world for work, so he wasn’t around much during their younger years.

You see, flying is a passion for him. Christer, strictly speaking, loves to fly airplanes. He feels comfortable up there in the sky, in a “different world, where he can relax”, so he says!!

I definitely prefer a park on a lake or a spa for relaxation, and you? Yet, everybody is different.

One day, shortly after I met him, he told me that Chicago O’Hare was his second home.  “What ? I thought. Me, the little traveler.” Did I encounter an alien? Probably, half alien for sure.”

Years later but not so long ago, I caught him sitting in a lounge at London airport. He was waiting for an eight-hour flight back home, and here he was fondly staring across the window at the runway, dreaming and checking the traffic. “Oh,” he says. “That big one is going to Sydney. And that one, too, must be one to Hong Kong!”

“Sure,” I think, “Never tired of it, it is just in his blood.”

Over the years, I too have learned to ‘like’ airplanes more. No choice if I need to tag along, right?

Despite all these long tiring journeys, his best journey in life is the relationship with his four children—all so different. His loving bond with them is tangible, so real. It comes from a kind, deep-rooted affection, natural tolerance, and openness to their different personalities and approaches to life.

He is just there for them, no matter what, and they know it well. They continue to travel this tender special “route” in life hand in hand with their Dad, the sky traveller!

A Super fresh Mojito, Christer’s summer drink….
